Summer Is Acoming

Monday night saw the last episodes of many of ABC's current affairs shows including Q and A, Four Corners and Media Watch. This can only mean one thing: the long summer of silly reporting, skeleton staffing and thin newspapers is on its way. Now most people would be thinking that there are far more important things to be worrying about at this time of year such as the art of cooking turkey and getting hold of the cheapest Lego Hogwarts Castle at either Big W, K Mart or Target. I on the other hand firmly believe it is my duty, as a media obsessed, liberated HSC student, to keep an eye on the many gaffs, spats and narrative gems which will no doubt populate the news over the next few months. On a more serious note, my galvanization to join the blogosphere has been caused by the seeming lack of independent media and current affairs blogs in Australia (Grog's Gamut standing as a notable exception). The fact is we need more bloggers to scrutinise the ways of the media in this rapidly changing digital landscape we like to call 'social networking'and hopefully with enough time on my hands I'll be able to do just that.
